Electropolishing
Discover one of the most technologically advanced methods of polishing jewellery.
Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that uses electric current and a suitably concentrated electrolyte to remove impurities and imperfections from a metal surface, making it more reflective.
This process is nothing more than electrolysis, during which a microscopic layer of metal is removed, in places with the greatest surface roughness, which allows for obtaining the proper smoothness and degree of gloss. The impact on the jewellery piece is so gentle that it does not affect the macroscopic structure of the surface in any way. Only fragments elevated above the average on a microscopic scale are dissolved in the electrolyte, thanks to which the processed surface acquires the desired shine.
The use of electropolishing in jewellery has several undeniable advantages.:
- the polishing process is very short – 10-40 minutes
- polishing equally open surfaces and hard-to-reach places
- safe polishing of filigree products and products with complex geometry
- polishing without rounding the edges
- the process is easy and quick to carry out
- easy recovery of gold after the process
The process is carried out using electropolishing machines, in which the workpieces are placed on titanium-coated jigs that act as an anode and immersed in an appropriately concentrated electrolyte with the addition of a charge that facilitates the separation of metal particles from the metal surface and acts as a carrier. Depending on the weight of the products, the appropriate voltage and current values are set in the machine and the products are subjected to a process lasting a couple of minutes to half hour, after which they must be thoroughly rinsed and dried.
