Rubber industry
Rubber products are manufactured in such a way that the rubber mixture is pressed and then vulcanized after being placed in divided molds. The disadvantage of this process is the need to use a small surplus of the rubber mixture than the volume of the mold and the volume of the finished product. This action is intended to vent the raw material and fill the entire volume of the mold.
A vulcanized rubber product is characterized by the presence of thin overflows on the edges or around the division of the mold in which it was manufactured, as a result of squeezing out the excess mixture during the pressing process. These flashes are very thin, but have high elasticity.
The processing of rubber sealing rings is most often carried out in wet disc finishing machines with ceramic chips as abrasive media. In the case when the products are characterized by significant elasticity, the process can be carried out with the participation of a cooling agent (cryogenic processing), which facilitates the breaking off of flashes, which, due to cooling below the glass transition temperature, become brittle.
